Poster Contest Launch

Good morning everybody….Today we start by highlighting two students who were nominated separately by their friends.  But they have a lot in common!  Both are 7th graders, both enjoy the arts, both are girls, and both happened to have worked with me last year in the Garden Club, and I personally know them to be kind, compassionate, service-oriented, wonderful candidates for today’s feature.  Listen in:

And now, a huge congratulations to 7th graders, X and Y.  Obviously, there are a lot of people in your lives who appreciate you for who you are and what you do.  Thanks for being such active participants of the Hillview community.

Please remember that ANYONE can nominate someone for our student highlight.  All you need to do is write up WHY you think someone deserves this award and turn it in to me in the office.  Students are selected based on their qualities of good character.

Today, instead of a “lesson” on a specific character trait, we’re going to be looking at a lot of them as we launch a poster contest.  In fact, many classrooms currently have posters that portray some trait of good character.  It might be courage, respect, responsibility, integrity, compassion, tolerance, perseverance, or any one of a number of things that have been talked about on these segments.  Here’s a short video that shows many more.  As you look at these posters note how the message is portrayed both in the words AND the pictures.

Now, each of your teachers has been given 4 quotes.  You’ll be broken up into groups for the remainder of the Action Team, and asked to brainstorm ways that these quotes can be illustrated on a poster.  The ideas will be turned in to me, and an ice cream party will be awarded to the groups that come up with the best ideas.  Feel free to sketch your ideas or describe them, and be sure to put the first and last names of the members of the group you worked with!  Remember, brainstorming means LOTS of ideas!

Ok teachers, it’s time to break the class into groups and give each group one quote….Let the brainstorming begin.

Your character is defined by what you say, and how you act,

Even when no one is watching.
