Hillview Mission Statement
Hillview Middle School Offers a challenging academic program in a safe, caring enviroment. We encourage students to master basic skills, sample a variety of educational, social, and cultural experiences, and begin assuming more responsibility for their learning and their citizenship. We recognize and address the needs of individual learners, and provide intergrated, active, innovative, and exciting learning experiences. Staff, parents, and students work together to create an educational community whose members treat one another with concern and respect. Our goal is to provide Hillview students with the skills and opportunities necessary for them to make a direct contribution to their community. We at Hillview honor educational achievment and excellence at every level.

Awards
Hillview is proud of its history of excellence. The school has been recognized by several different organizations.
Community STAR 2004
Mr. Moore was selected as a Community STAR 2004 award recipient for his leadership, innovation and inspiration as principal of Hillview School for the past 19 years.

National Blue Ribbon
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, in existence since 1982, celebrates many of America's most successful schools. Its goal is to promote and support the improvement of education in America. Hillview was recognized in 1999-2000 by the United States Department of Education as one of the nation's top schools.

California Distinguished School
The California School Recognition Program was created in 1985 to communicate and reinforce the priorities of the State Board of Education and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Each year, it identifies and honors some of the state's most exemplary and inspiring public schools.
Hillivew has received 6 Distinguished School awards, more than any other middle school in the state.

Kent Award
is presented by the San Mateo County School Boards Association in recognition of innovative teaching programs developed by a school. Hillivew has received several Kent awards.

The purpose of the Hillview PTO is to promote the education and welfare of the students in our school. To this end, the PTO takes a very active role in the enrichment activities of the school, while encouraging a feeling of community spirit among students, staff and parents. The PTO organized and mobilizes the many parents that through their volunteerism make an active contribution to the school community. Funds to support all PTO-sponsored programs and purchases are generated through membership dues and through parent-coordinated fundraisers. |

The Foundation is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization committed to maintaining and improving quality education at Laurel, Encinal, Oak Knoll, and Hillview schools. They raise money to fund essential educational programs and innovative teaching and learning projects. The Foundation contributed over $500 per student last year to fund critical programs and personnel such as science and art teachers, librarians, physical education instructors, technology professionals, math textbooks and music equipment. |

School Site Council
|
The Site Council is a group of parents, students and staff who are responsible for writing the School Improvement Plan, implementing the Plan at Hillview, and evaluating its effectiveness. The Site Council also manages an annual budget for enhancement of the school site and curriculum.

Community Advisory Committee
|
The CAC is comprised of volunteer parents, teachers and community members involved with Special Education. The CAC was enacted by the California Legislature to ensure parent involvement with Special Education Programs. The CAC offers evening workshops during the school year to help parents and the community understand children's learning differences and learning styles, the IEP process and current Special Education legilsation. |
